Take Aciclovir tablets as directed by your doctor, usually once daily, for the recommended duration of treatment. The usual dose is one tablet every day, ideally 1-2 days apart from time of day when taking the medication. It is important not to take more than one tablet at a time, which could cause unwanted side effects.
Do not increase the dose or take more than recommended, or the use of any other medicine. Aciclovir tablets may cause dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.
If you are using the tablets for cold sores, it is important to use them as soon as possible. If they become too sore, do not use them for more than a few days. Taking longer than recommended will not prevent the virus from spreading.
In patients with herpes labialis, the initial dose is 200-400mg twice daily, while Aciclovir tablets is usually taken as needed, but this may be increased to 400mg twice daily. Do not exceed 1200mg, as the effectiveness of Aciclovir tablets is not known.
It is important not to take more than one tablet at a time, as this can increase the risk of side effects.
Take the medication with food, but do not eat or drink large amounts of alcohol, as this may slow down the treatment process. Taking more than one tablet in 24 hours may increase the risk of side effects.
